Custom fields

What custom fields are for

Custom fields let a checklist template capture extra data per task that isn't covered by the built-in columns. Typical examples: meter readings, batch numbers, temperatures, room numbers, signatures.

Set up a custom field

  1. Open a checklist template.
  2. In Other Settings, open Custom fields.
  3. Add a new field with:
    • Label (shown as the column header on the active run).
    • Required when staff must fill it in to complete the task.
    • Visible on checklist to show it by default on active runs.
  4. Save the template.

The fields appear as extra columns on every active run of that template.

Fill in custom fields during a run

  1. Open the active checklist.
  2. Type or select a value in the custom field cell for a task.
  3. Press Tab or Enter to save, or click away to commit.
  4. Required fields must be filled before the task can be marked complete.

Visibility and column preferences

  • Each custom field has a Visible on checklist toggle that sets the default for everyone.
  • Each user can hide or show columns from the Columns popover. Personal preferences override the template default for that user. See Sort and columns.

Important notes

  • Renaming a custom field after data has been captured keeps the existing values associated with the new label.
  • Removing a custom field hides it from the template, but values captured on past runs remain on those run records.
  • Custom field values appear in the drag preview on the sort page, in the active checklist row, and in the row-detail modal.
